The Spiritual Rewards & Etiquettes of Tahajjud Prayer
July 28, 2026
The night prayer (Tahajjud) is one of the most sacred acts of worship in Islam, representing an intimate dialogue between a believer and their Creator when the rest of the world sleeps.
Divine Invitation in the Last Third of the Night
Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) informed us that during the final third of every night, Allah Almighty descends to the lowest heaven in a manner suited to His Majesty, declaring: "Who is calling upon Me that I may answer him? Who is asking of Me that I may give him? Who is seeking My forgiveness that I may forgive him?" (Sahih al-Bukhari).
Practical Steps to Establish Tahajjud
- Make a sincere intention (Niyyah) before sleeping.
- Sleep on your right side following the Sunnah and recite evening Adhkar.
- Set an alarm 20–30 minutes before the Fajr adhan.
- Begin your prayer with two light rak'ahs as performed by the Messenger of Allah.
